Quiet, peaceful, beautiful Forkland Campground

We wanted to enjoy the quiet, serenity of Forkland Campground (Corp of Engineer park) before leaving south central Alabama and heading east.  It was a whopping 12 miles away from Foscue Creek in Demopolis.  Jerry, one of the other camp hosts at Foscue, asked if we’d be able to make it ‘straight through’:)

Even a distance of 12 miles can give you a whole different camping experience and Forkland proves that.  It is heavily wooded, on a old creek connecting to the Tombigbee River, and off the beaten path so there are very few campers there.  The sites are water and electric only has a clean bathhouse with laundry facilities and a short nature trail.  We stayed on site 21 – the premier site – arranged for by Anne, our Foscue COE ranger.  This site is BEAUTIFUL with water on three sides, huge pad, and steps down to a sandy point for pulling up the Porta-Bote.

We put out jug lines and fished for bass. We were semi productive on the fish but had a wonderful time trying to get them in the boat.   During our last day at the park it had rained many miles up north and it had made it downstream to put our boat in the water and floating instead of on the sand.  Glenn had to wade out to his waist in very cold water to get the boat off the anchor place, making our morning a little more exciting. Pictures are below of the site, the nature trail and our crazy friends Marijke and Tony with “our” ranger Anne.  They visited to grill out for Tony’s 75th birthday and Anne presented him with a bottle of prune juice.
