Biking Bismarck

We have had a couple of weeks without getting on the bikes, so I was itching to get out and ride.  Timing was perfect for a beautiful warm spring day as we were heading into Bismarck, ND so I looked on their city website for bike trail information.  Also checked on my Rails-to-Trails and All Trails apps.  The city website was super — complete with a pdf of color coded trails, mileage and a description.

Having never been to Bismarck, I looked at the map for a scenic trail that had an access point at a park or near a large parking area outside of downtown.  (Driving even our small rig in a downtown is an unneeded stresser.)  We went to Seratoma Park and were immediately wowed.  It is next to the Missouri River, has a wonderful children’s playground, and covered picnic areas.

The Missouri Valley Millennium Legacy Trail intersected at the Seratoma park and was paved and well maintained  for the entire route.  The route made you feel like you were not even close to a big city with the river on one side and a steep hillside on the other.  It was off-road all the way with several markers for historic places, art sculptures, and benches for resting.

There were so many runners, walkers and other bikers out enjoying a beautiful afternoon.  The high school must be near since we saw a track team running up the steep hill by the trail (you could also bike this trail but it was a little too ambitious for us).  Fun to watch all the activity!
